‘East Coast Weasel’ Labour MSP Iain Gray does massive U turn on Council tax freeze, panic in Labour as the ‘ideas’ kitty is empty!

Dear All

For some considerable time the Labour Party has been banging on about allowing Councils to put their income tax up.

‘East Coast Weasel’ Labour MSP Iain Gray made such a big deal about it, closely followed by Gordon ‘free dinners’ Matheson, leader of the Labour Council of shame in Glasgow.

Matheson went over the score.

Now, Labour has abandoned its plans to “replace or reform” the council tax if elected in May and copied its main rival.

U turn!

Labour who fought against every Council tax freeze at every budget has now been shown to be opportunist.

It’s a massive climb down by Labour and much humiliation for Glasgow Labour who were the ‘ball carriers’ for that play.

They were running on the ‘Road to nowhere’.

The announcement coincided to take place during the opening day of their main rival’s Scottish Conference in Glasgow.

Earlier this year the Labour Party tried to make as much capital as possible by saying the Scottish Government were “holding a gun to councillors’ heads” by demanding a tax freeze while council budgets were being cut.

The freeze has saved the average household around £300.

Money kept in the pockets of ordinary people.

When Gray took over as the ‘leader’ of Labour in 2008, he convened a working group on the tax, saying:

“I believe the council tax must be replaced or reformed to make it fairer.”

Gray 2011 said:

“Labour will freeze council tax for the next two years. This is not the time for radical change because the economy is still emerging from a severe recession ... There will be no revaluation from Labour in the next Parliament.”

Sounds desperate to me and weak forced to copy the policies of others; begs the question why would anyone vote for Iain Gray.

Why get a copy when you can get an original.

The original is always worth more!

Derek Brownlee, for the Tories, added:

“This u-turn can’t be viewed as anything other than an increasingly desperate Labour Party saying anything to get through the election.”

Brownlee agrees with me, it is say anything to get elected.

This isn’t the first time that Gray has copied others, in Sept 2010, I proposed the single national police force at my party’s national assembly, two months later the ‘East Coast Weasel’ was copying George Laird’s idea.

There is no vision in 'Scottish' Labour under Iain Gray.

And lastly, Gordon ‘free dinners’ Matheson, leader of shame at Glasgow City Council, how foolish does he look?

And he did it on telly to boot.

Yours sincerely
