SNP should demand public inquiry into the Steven Purcell scandal, why did Labour set up guangos staffed by Labour Party family members?

Dear All

The fallout of the Steven ‘bin laden’ Purcell scandal continues to grow as the announcement of a Special meeting of Glasgow City Council is to take place to debate the implications of his recent resignation.

SNP Leader of the Opposition Councillor James Dornan said;

"The resignation of the former leader was a shock to everyone in Glasgow and a personal tragedy for Steven. However, his departure poses problems for Labour in Glasgow, Holyrood and Westminster. At various stages, Labour has claimed that a small cabal worked with Purcell to run Glasgow, while at other times there have been reports of a ‘presidential’ style of leadership. This only serves to confuse the public over how decisions about billions of pounds of spending were made in Glasgow”.

At present the Glasgow Labour Party has tried to distance their relationship totally from Purcell calling him effectively a 'one man band' who solely took decisions and they didn’t know what was going on.

The issue of real concerns centres round the millions of pounds poured into Labour
Set up NGO quangos run by the Labour Party members and their relatives who attain senior positions in them.

SNP Councillor James Dornan added;

"Serious questions remain over the conduct of the administration under his leadership and the people of Glasgow deserve to have clarity over the way their city has been run. That is why the SNP has led calls for a Special Meeting of the Council, to seek a full statement from the acting leader of the Council, secure a fully independent investigation of decisions taken by the Labour administration under the former leader and to publish all findings."

That investigation must also include the quangos set up by Purcell so that people can know what the connections the staff have to serving Glasgow Labour Party Councillors and donors.

He also said;

"The people of Glasgow deserve to know how their money has been spent. The Labour run Council in Glasgow, meanwhile, must learn lessons from this sorry saga, to ensure that such a situation cannot happen again in future."

Under the Labour Council of shame and Purcell a half a dozen quangos were set up in which some of the quangos have some thing in common.

Family members of the Labour Party got jobs in them at various levels.

Glasgow has been run as a fiefdom by the Glasgow Labour Party for 80 years and during that time, greed and excess has flourished at the expense of the people.

The SNP Government have a clear duty to set up and run an independent inquiry into the goings on at Glasgow City Council and their arms length quangos.

It is time that the money trail is followed to wherever it leads to.

The people have a right to know if the Glasgow Labour Party has used public office to ensure that their family members and friends have benefited from public money and to what extent.

Yours sincerely
